Shoebox Ministry – Shoeboxes filled with toiletries, socks, reading material, notepad and pen, laundry soap, band-aids, mending kits, and other items are collected from the parishioners and given to the homeless through the Salvation Army, Soul’s Harbor and Hannah House. Monetary support comes from St. Bernard’s Women’s Club, Men’s Club, Knights of Columbus, parishioners, Shepherd Groups, various clubs and generous individuals.
Needy Envelopes – Envelopes are mailed with regular envelopes and are available in the pews for those wishing to donate to those in need. Funds received are deposited in a parish fund to serve the needs of the poor.
Food Pantry – Parishioners donate food on the first weekend of each month at Masses. Food is stored in the Parish Food Pantry located in the Parish Hall. The St. Bernard Food Shelf is open Tuesdays from 9am to 1pm. Boxes of food are available to those in need. Excess food collected is given to Care & Share in Gravette for distribution to the needy.
Care & Share – Care & Share is a non-profit community outreach organization sponsored by local churches. They accept donations of nonperishable food, clothing, and household items. The Care & Share trailer is parked in St. Bernard’s parking lot the second and fourth Thursdays of each month. Donations can be placed in the trailer. Parish volunteers also staff the Gravette Care & Share store six weeks a year. Meals-on-Wheels Volunteers from St. Bernard’s deliver prepared meals to those who are homebound because of illness or age.
Blood Drive – The Knights of Columbus, Council 9514, coordinates a blood drive three times per year in the Parish Hall in support of the Community Blood Service. This drive helps to provide blood to 37 area hospitals in a four state area.
Tootsie Roll Project – Proceeds from this annual event assist children with learning disabilities in the area. The Knights of Columbus, Council 9514, schedules the project and arranges for volunteers.
